故宫博物院，作为见证中华民族文明发展的综合性博物馆，将迎来她建院八十周年华诞。为隆重庆典这一历史性的盛事，姜国芳“紫禁城系列”油画作品展将于2004年10月初在北京的故宫博物院神武门城楼举行。这次展览由故宫博物院主办，也是故宫建院80周年以来首次为当代画家举办的个人画展。
姜国芳于1974年就读于中央美术学院。1978年以优异的成绩毕业并留校任教。多年的艺术追求成就了他的“紫禁城系列”。作品被各国的公共与私人艺术机构广泛收藏，多幅作品在国际性艺术大展和艺术拍卖上，创出了令人注目的成绩，被称为“发现了紫禁城”的第一人。
姜国芳为准备本次个人画展筹备了近五年的时间，展出他的50多幅作品，是从姜国芳近20年所创作的170多幅作品中精选而出，其中部分为新作，而另一部分是从国外征集而来，极具代表性。届时，深郁的宫廷油画与典雅恢弘的古建大殿融为一体，必定是一次别开生面的艺术活动。姜国芳是目前已经进入中国油画史的当代重要的油画家之一。1951年出生，江西人。1980年作品《三峡急流》被中国美术馆收藏，1984年作品《古塞秋意》参加全国第六届美展，并获北京一等奖。1993年5月他曾组织并参加了中国美术馆主办的《具象油画展》，1995年应邀访问欧洲，1996年赴美国访问，同年接受中央电视台采访，制作人物专题片《姜国芳.紫禁城》。随后在海外举办过30多次联展和7次个展，并参加了香港佳士德拍卖。他的紫禁城系列被世界20多个国家博物馆和私人所收藏，从1987年创作第一幅《太和殿》至今己170多幅紫禁城系列作品。

As a comprehensive museum that has witnessed the development of the Chinese nation’s civilization, the Palace Museum will celebrate its 80th birthday. To celebrate this historical event, the Forbidden City Series oil painting exhibition by Jiang Guofang will be held at the Gate of Spiritual Valorin the Palace Museum in early October 2004.This will be the first time in its 80-year history for the museum to sponsor a solo exhibition for a contemporary painter.
Jiang Guofang enrolled in the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1974.After graduating with distinction in 1978, he was appointed to the faculty.Years of arduous artistic pursuit resulted in his Forbidden City Series.His works are widely collected by both public and private art agencies throughout the world. Many pieces have achieved remarkable success at international art exhibitions and auctions, and the achievements of his Series have won him praise as the first among painters to “discover” the Forbidden City.
Jiang Guofang has spent nearly five years preparing for this solo exhibition. More than 50 of his works have been selected from some 170 created over a period of nearly 20 years. Some of them are new creations while others have been collected from abroad. These works are considered typical of his style.The art show, combining Jiang’s grand yet somber oil paintings with the elegant and magnificent ancient architecture, will definitely be a unique art event.Jiang Guofang has been recorded into China’s oil painting history as one of the important modern oil painters.He was born in JiangxiProvince in 1951. In 1980, his work Riptide of the Three Gorges was collected by China National Museum of Fine Arts. In 1984, his Ancient Fortress was shown on the Sixth National Fine Arts Exhibition and awarded the first prize in Beijing.In May 1993, he organized and participated in the Figurative Oil Painting Exhibition sponsored by China National Museum of Fine Arts. In 1995, he was invited to visit Europe. In 1996, he visited the United States and was interviewed by CCTV for a feature program entitled, “Jiang Guofang and his Forbidden City Series”.Afterwards, he held more than 30 joint exhibitions and 7 solo exhibitions abroad, and participated in Christie’s Hong Kong auction.From his first work The Hall of Supreme Harmony created in 1987 till now, the Forbidden City Series have reached over 170 pieces, and are collected by more than twenty countries’ national museums and individuals in the world.
Just as the comment made by the China’s Fine Art circle on Jiang Guofang’s art, during his over 40 years of artistic life, broad-minded and persevering character and worship towards Chinese history and culture constitute Jiang Guofang’s artistic pursuit and exploration, and his works gradually show his mature style.His painting language is the paradigm of the harmonious integration of western and oriental art. In his works, we can both feel the painter’s macroscopic thinking over China’s history and reality, and experience his careful and persistent pursuit for pure beautiful picturesque scenes.
